The Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has appointed Alhaji Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli as the 19th Emir of Zazzau.
President Muhammadu Buhari; former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; President of the Senate, Dr. Ahmad Lawan; National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu, and a former Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, have expressed delight in the appointment of the new emir, who succeeded the late Emir Shehu Idris.
Bamalli succeeded Idris, the 18th emir, who died on Sunday, September 20, 2020, after being on the throne for 45 years.
The appointment was announced in a statement yesterday by the Commissioner of Local Government Affairs, Alhaji Ja’afaru Ibrahim Sani. He succeeds Dr. Shehu Idris, passed died on September 20. The late monarch reigned for 45 years.
The statement said: “Governor El-Rufai congratulated His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli on his appointment and wished him a successful and peaceful reign as Emir of Zazzau.
Bamalli, born in 1966, is the first emir from the Mallawa Ruling House in 100 years, following the demise of his grandfather, Emir Dan Sidi, in 1920.
He said: “Until his appointment as Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli held the title of Magajin Garin Zazzau and served as Nigeria’s ambassador to Thailand, with concurrent accreditation to Myanmar
“He has been a permanent commissioner in the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission in 2015.”
According to the Commissioner, the new emir has worked in banking and as Executive Director and later acting Managing Director of the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Corporation.
“He was a staff of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Agency before a stint as head of Human Resources at M-Tel, the mobile communications arm of the old Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL).”
The monarch studied Law at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and holds a master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy and a diploma in Organisational Leadership from Oxford University, the statement said. It added that he is also a fellow on Conflict Resolution of the University of York, United Kingdom (UK).
President Muhammadu Buhari, Senate President Ahmad Lawan, governors under the Northern Governors’ Forum umbrella and All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, among others, have congratulated the new Emir of Zazzau, ALhaji Ahmed Bamali on his appointment.
In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity Garba Shehu, the President urged the emir to unite all interests in the Zazzau Emirate.
The President was quoted as saying in the statement: “I congratulate you on making history by becoming the first emir from the Mallawa Ruling house in 100 years. You deserve the appointment and I am confident you will justify the confidence reposed in you.
“While you bask in the glory of the moment, I want you to be the leader to all and treat all your people fairly in the performance of your duties.
“This is a challenging moment and therefore, I want you to use this opportunity to unite all members of the ruling houses for the interest of your people.
“May Allah grant you wisdom and guidance in the discharge of this responsibility.”
