The member representing Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Aniekan Umanah has charged the federal government and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to collaborate with the state governments to ensure the establishment of Covid-19 test centres across the 36 states of the federation.
Umanah who made the charge yesterday on the programme, ‘Democracy Today’ on AIT, said the only way of determining the true number of positive COVID-19 cases in the nation is by conducting massive tests across states .
While applauding the efforts of the federal government in managing the outbreak so far, the lawmaker urged the federal government to evolve palliatives that will bring succour to Nigerians including the provision of grants using the 40million BVNs approved by the CBN.
Umanah who commended the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila for coordinating members to donate their two months salaries in support of the fight against the pandemic COVID 19, said the world is humbled by the global economic breakdown since the outbreak of the virus and required sacrifices from well meaning organisations and citizens
Umanah further expressed appreciation to all individuals and organisations who have supported the federal and state governments effort in managing the deadly virus that has claimed many lives globally.
The Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika Rep urged citizens to observe the World Health Organisation (WHO) preventive measures against the virus, including social distancing, regular hand-wash with running water and use of hand sanitizers while also advising them to avoid touching of eyes, nose and mouth and also seek immediate medical care if they experience fever, cough and difficulty in breathing.
