The election of the member of the House of Representatives, representing Ikwo\Ezza South federal constituency, Lazarus Ogbee, has been cancelled by the National Assembly election petitions tribunal in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state.
Delivering the judgement on Monday, September 9, Justice Sika Henry Aprioku declared the rival of Ogbee, Chinedu Ogar of the All Progressive Congress (APC), as the winner of the poll, The Nation reports. This is coming after Ogar had contested the results of the election in court, insisting that his votes were erroneously reduced by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in wards like Ikwo and Onueke in Ezza.
The National Assembly election petitions tribunal sitting in Asaba, the Delta state capital, on Saturday, September 7 nullified the election of Senator Manager. The tribunal held that after looking at all arguments, it was necessary to cancel the election.
Moreover, Justice Aprioku ordered INEC to issue Ogar a certificate of return with immediate effect.
