Muslim Activist and Director of Muslim Right Concern (MURIC), Ishaq Akintola, has said that it is compulsory for Nigerian governors to respect and obey the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) order over Sallah festival.
According to a statement issued by MURIC, Ishaq disclosed that there is no massive gathering for Sallah prayer as Covid-19 is still spreading in the country, however, the gathering can increase the positive cases instead to reduce as expected.
Meanwhile, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) condemned the actions of the northern governors, who lifted lockdown for worship places and will allow massive gathering for Sallah prayer, however, MURIC described such act as indiscipline and executive recklessness.
Ishaq lamented that it’s so saddened as some governors still refused to consider the re-opened houses of worship, especially mosques after adversaries messages sent by some Nigerian Islamic authorities.
“This is unacceptable. It is ungodly trespass. It is a manifestation of gross indiscipline and executive recklessness. These governors want to expose Muslims to serious danger just because they want to dance to the gallery.
“We warn that this action is a clear violation of the provisions of the Constitution. Article 14 Section 2(b) of the1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria states inter alia ‘the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.
“Therefore any governor who permits large assemblies in Salah prayer has committed an impeachable offence by exhibiting nonchalance in a matter of security of lives”, Ishaq berated.
Contrary to this, Ishaq applauds governors, who had complied to the restricted order and directed all Muslims to observe Sallah prayer in their various homes as next year and more to come will be better.
He hereby urged the North governors, who had approved massive gathering for Sallah festival to disapprove and comply as it’s for the citizens’ safety and security.
“There must be no public Sallah prayers anywhere in Nigeria tomorrow. We are talking about human lives in their thousands for crying out loud. COVID-19 is no joke and it is not too late for the concerned governors to change their minds”, he rested.
