Ministry of Transportation Permanent Secretary, Mr Sabiu Zakari, has assured the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), of full safety and security of Ships and Cargo on Nigeria’s sea ways.
Mr. Zakari underscored this, during the courtesy visit that the NSC paid to the Ministry in a bid to ensure efficiency in regards to the importation and exportation of non-oil produce from the country.
Speaking on the effective safety of the business, he added that the Federal Government has approved an integrated system to ensure that Nigeria water transportation is well secured.
“Various equipment has been brought into the country which will ensure that our waterway are well protected with all the necessary equipment that will give adequate surveillance on Nigeria’s water front as well as various equipment that can check piracy and robbery and attack of the sea and mostly the ships that are coming into Nigeria”. He said.
However, he added that various security personnel are undergoing training with the new equipment that the Federal Government brought to the country for the adequate security of the Nigeria waterway. Assuring, that in the next few weeks, the training will be completed.
Fledging their support to the sector, he said that the Federal Government has recently signed into law, an Anti-Piracy bill to improve security on Nigeria waterways and exclusive economic zone.
“And also recently, the Federal Government has signed a bill which is the bill call Anti-piracy. The suppression of piracy and other maritime offence bill was recently signed into law by Mr President and I think that will also help in the ease of doing business.
