Amid the Capitol violence that led to the death of at least four people, US House of Representatives will proceed with legislation to impeach President Donald Trump, according to Nancy Pelosi, the speaker.
Yahoo News citing AP as its source reports that Pelosi’s team on Monday will seek a vote on a resolution calling on Pence and Cabinet officials to invoke the 25th Amendment.
Pelosi on Thursday, January 7, noted that if it is not done, the House may move forward with impeachment proceedings.
With a full House vote expected on Tuesday, January 12, Pence and the Cabinet would have 24 hours to act before lawmakers would move towards impeachment.
Pelosi in a letter to colleagues explained that the House will act with urgency because Trump represents an imminent threat, adding that the assault on America’s democracy was intensified by the president.
Amid the pressure of the American leader to step down rises, Republican senator, Pat Toomey has joined Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski in calling for Trump to resign.
