Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, on Wednesday was at the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja to pick his nomination form. According to the governor, he has always eschewed ethnicity and religious bias and therefore, seeks the support of the people of the state to ensure good governance. He disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari would visit Kogi soon to inaugurate some landmark projects in furtherance of developmental efforts in the state.
Governor Bello also urged the APC National Working Committee (NWC) to ensure a level playing field for every aspirant to participate in the primaries scheduled for August 29. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed November 16 to conduct the governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsa States.it was reported earlier that Twenty Kogi governorship aspirants under the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) have rejected the indirect primaries adopted by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.
The aspirants said this in a protest letter addressed to the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole which was read by one of them, Mr Muhammed Ali, at a news conference in Abuja on Monday. Ali said they were at the APC National Secretariat to protest against the decision of the NWC on the adoption of indirect primaries for the selection of the party’s flag bearer for the Nov. 16 governorship poll. He said that the decision taken by NWC was done without adequate consultation with critical stakeholders in the state.
